Seniors

I am committed to the principle that in our society older persons are entitled to live in dignity and comfort. That means addressing issues of adequate housing, affordable health care, and sufficient Social Security. Seniors should be afforded home health care, as should people with disabilities, and not forced into nursing homes. I've fought for this in Tennessee for years. A priority of AARP, it is more humane and cost effective.

* Pensions need to be secured and big business must maintain adequate reserves to keep them secure.
* I co-sponsored a bill to lower insurance premiums for seniors.
* I enacted property tax relief for seniors.
* I supported a bill to remove sales tax on non-prescription drugs.
