Turner Legislation Approved by Full Committee
Legislation introduced by Congressman Michael R. Turner (R-Centerville) to re-designate Aviation Heritage National Park as "Wright Brothers-Dunbar National Historic Park" (H.R. 4612) was approved by the Full Committee of the House Committee on Resources today.
Rep. Turner testified before a hearing of the National Parks, Recreation, and Public Lands Subcommittee of the Committee on Resources on behalf of the legislation last April. Also testifying at the hearing was Amanda Wright-Lane, the great-grandniece of Wilbur and Orville Wright and a Trustee of the Aviation Heritage Foundation Inc.
Congressman Turner commented, "I was pleased to introduce this legislation, because the community agreed that changing the name of the park to include the names of some of our most famous and important first sons, is a fitting tribute that will bring more visitors to the region. The Committee on Resources has honored Paul Laurence Dunbar, the Wright brothers and their respective contributions to our local community, as well as the nation, by voting to support my legislation, H.R. 4612."
The next step for the legislation is consideration by the full House of Representatives.
