Burns Pleased To See House Pass Child Medication Safety Act

Bill Burns first authored empowers parents and prohibits mandatory medication of school children

(SYLVANIA, GA) -- Max Burns, candidate for Georgia's New 12th District, today commended the U.S. House of Representatives for passing H.R. 1790, the Child Medication Safety Act of 2005, a bill identical to one Burns first authored during the 108th Congress. The bipartisan bill, introduced in the 109th Congress by Burns classmate Congressman John Kline (MN-02), passed the House by a vote of 407 to12.

"The Child Medication Safety Act is straightforward, sensible legislation that empowers parents and protects our children," said Burns. "This bill preserves communication between school personnel and parent, but also protects parents from being coerced into placing their child on a drug in order to receive educational services. School officials should never presume to know the medication needs of a child, only medical doctors have the authority to determine if a prescription for a medication is physically appropriate for a child."
