Burns Statement On The Striking Down Of Georgia's Traditional Marriage Amendment

(Savannah, Georgia) Max Burns, former Congressman running to represent Georgia's new 12th District, released the following statement regarding a Fulton County Superior Court Judge striking down Georgia's Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage:

"It's a sad day in Georgia when a single judge is able to strike down an amendment that was overwhelmingly approved by a majority of Georgians in 2004. Citizens all across this state voted to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, only to have a liberal judge in Atlanta defy their wishes. I know Governor Perdue and the Georgia General Assembly will quickly review what options they have to restore the will of the people of this state.

As a husband and father, a candidate and a Congressman, I've supported traditional marriage and voted to ban gay marriage while in Congress. I was proud to support this very amendment in 2004. While I am extremely disappointed in this ruling, I will continue to support the sanctity of marriage and protect the values that are important to our families.
