Statement from Congressman Sanders on Supreme Court Decision Regarding Military Tribunals

Representative Bernard Sanders (I-VT) said, "Today's Supreme Court decision is an important victory in the effort to reign in the abuses of power we have experienced under the Bush Administration. By ruling that the Administration's military tribunals for Guantanamo detainees cannot operate in violation of both American military law and the Geneva Convention, the Supreme Court has reaffirmed the basic tenets of our justice system and confirmed that no one, including the President, is above the law. We must do all we can to fight terrorism in this country but it is critical that we do this without undermining the basic constitutional rights that makes us a free country."
