Congressman Cuellar Celebrates National Citizenship Day

CONGRESSMAN CUELLAR CELEBRATES NATIONAL CITIZENSHIP DAY

Congressman Henry Cuellar is celebrating National Citizenship Day on July 1 by encouraging people to become naturalized citizens. The State of Texas has one of the highest numbers of eligible legal permanent residents in the United States, many of whom reside in South Texas.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, eight million individuals are currently eligible for citizenship. "The immigrant community continues to grow and comprise an integral part of our country; the best way for it to make its voice heard is through citizenship and voting," said Congressman Henry Cuellar.

"This Citizenship Day, I call on all legal permanent residents to become U.S. citizens, register to vote, and exercise their Constitutional rights as Americans," noted Congressman Cuellar. "My district offices are available daily to assist individuals in this process." Congressman Cuellar concluded, "Becoming a U.S. Citizen is a meaningful and critical step for immigrant men, women and children to fully share in the freedoms and rights our great nation has to offer."

Congressman Henry Cuellar is a member of the House Budget and Agriculture committees in the 109th Congress; accessibility to constituents, education, health care and economic development are his priorities.
