Death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi

Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today issued the following statement on the death of al Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

"Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was a known terrorist and an individual who had no regard for human life. Far too many innocent civilians died at his hands and even more U.S. servicemen and women have given their lives to end the terrorist practices al-Zarqawi promoted. The announcement of his death is a military victory, brought on by the perseverance of the U.S. forces that overcome incredible odds each day for our country.

"Though we recognize that this news will in no way end the practice of terrorism, the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi demonstrates the courage and strength of the U.S. military. It represents a turning point in this ongoing war and reminds us that this ought to be a year of significant transition in Iraq so that we may begin to bring our troops home."
