Gov. Rounds Issues Statement Regarding Basin Electric Announcement

PIERRE, SD - Statement by Gov. Mike Rounds:

We are pleased with today's announcement by Basin Electric that they are considering South Dakota as a site for locating a $1.6 billion Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant.

We have provided a letter of support on behalf of Basin Electric's application for investment tax credits available through the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

The decision by Basin Electric to implement the new IGCC technology in this plant is extremely important. Not only will South Dakota realize the power generated but also the environmental benefits this technology offers as well.

This venture, if completed, will contribute significantly to meeting the goals of our 2010 Initiative; particularly in the areas of gross state product and becoming a net energy exporter.
