STATEMENT BY CONGRESSMAN BERNIE SANDERS ON REPUBLICAN ENERGY PROPOSAL

This week the House will vote on Republican energy legislation, The Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act (HR 4761), that does nothing to lower gas prices for consumers or promote sustainable energy solutions but instead offers even more giveaways to Big Oil.

Congressman Bernie Sanders said; "With the American people paying outrageously high energy bills and the oil companies enjoying record breaking profits, it is incomprehensible to me that the Republican Leadership wants to provide millions more in giveaways to the Big Oil companies this week as part of a disastrous energy bill. Instead of giving more royalty relief and other benefits to Big Energy companies, Congress should be moving forward vigorously into energy conservation and sustainable energy. The technology is now available to break our dependency on fossil fuels and protect us from global warming, and that's what we should be doing."
