Washington D.C.-- The House today passed Republican legislation that would virtually eliminate the estate tax and raise the national debt by $762 billion in just the first 10 years. This tax break benefits only the wealthiest two-tenths of one percent of the population - the very wealthiest people in the country. Ninety-nine and eight-tenths of Americans gain nothing from this legislation.

Congressman Bernie Sanders said, "At a time when our country has an $8.3 trillion national debt and the President is under-funding education, health care and veterans' benefits, it is insane to be providing a huge tax break to a handful of millionaires and billionaires and raising the national debt by $762 billion. It is high time that the Republican Leadership here pay attention to the needs of the middle class and working families, and not just the wealthiest people in America."
