Government Waste and Fraud

Washington, DC--A new report prepared by the Minority Staff of the Committee on Government Reform shows that massive waste and fraud is prevalent in the contracts that the Bush Administration has awarded over the last five years. Sanders is a member of that committee. Today, he demanded that the Republican Leadership begin utilizing its oversight capabilities and change the way the Bush Administration does business.

Congressman Bernie Sanders said; "A new minority report which just came out of the Government Reform Committee has shown that the Bush Administration has wasted tens of billions of taxpayer dollars through incompetence and mismanagement. Whether it is the disastrous performance of FEMA in Hurricane Katrina, or no-bid contracts for the reconstruction of Iraq, private contractors like Halliburton are making out like bandits - while the peoples' money is being squandered. The time is long overdue for the Republican Leadership in Congress to undertake a serious investigation of this waste and fraud and demand changes in the way the government does business."
