Wellness Challenge winners announced
PIERRE, S.D. - The Capital City Cyclepaths team took top honors in the Hit the Trails Wellness Challenge held as part of the Capital Community Celebration. The Cyclepaths averaged 331 miles per team member over the four-week challenge.
Cyclepaths team members were Paul Forney, Carol Gengler, Joel Gengler, Patrick Gengler, Tom Lee, Julie Linn, Phillip Sheffield, Diane Smith, David Zellmer, and Sandy Zinter.
Nineteen teams including 137 participants took part in the challenge, recording miles for any activity such as walking, biking, running, rollerblading, etc. on the Pierre/Fort Pierre trails during the month of May.
"Our goal was to challenge Pierre/Fort Pierre residents to be physically active and to explore the 50 miles of beautiful trails in our communities," said Gov. Mike Rounds. "Challenge participants logged nearly 11,000 miles on our trails. Congratulations to the Capital City Cyclepaths team!"
Cyclepaths team members will lead the South Dakota Mile walk at the Capital Community Celebration at 5:30 p.m. and then receive the Hit the Trails trophy from Governor Mike Rounds at 6 p.m.
All challenge participants who submitted completed logs to the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce received a Hit the Trails prize, compliments of Strides to a Healthier Pierre.
Maps of the Pierre/Fort Pierre trails are available at the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce and also along the trail at kiosks at Griffin Park, West Farm Island, and Steamboat Park.
