Congressman Reacts to American Air Strikes That Kill al-Zarqawi of al-Qaeda in Iraq

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) issued the following statement in response to news that U.S. air strikes north of Baghdad killed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq:

"The man Osama bin Laden called ‘the prince of al-Qaeda' has been eliminated. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi - who is responsible for deaths of innocent Iraqis, Americans and coalition forces - is no longer a threat to the Iraqi people."

"This is a major victory in the War on Terror, the U.S. military and most of all, the people of Iraq."

"Our troops should be commended. They persevered in a long struggle to get Zarqawi and their efforts have paid off."

"The fact that Zarqawi's own people sold him out shows that Iraqis, by and large, are renouncing his terrorist acts."

"We cannot expect Zarqawi's death to put an immediate end to the violence in Iraq, but it has certainly a major blow to al-Qaeda's campaign of terror in Iraq. We must continue to stand with the Iraqi people to allow peace, prosperity and democracy to take hold in their country."
