75,000 New Jobs Created in May

Bureau of Labor Statistics today announced that the economy added jobs for the 33rd consecutive month after creating 75,000 new jobs in May. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) emphasized the continued evidence that Republican economic policies are working.

"The tax relief Republicans successfully passed has contributed to our strong job creation, low unemployment, dynamic economic growth and hard-working Americans keeping more of their well-earned money," Diaz-Balart said, "Despite this thriving economy and shrinking deficits, Democrats like Nancy Pelosi continue to advocate and vote for colossal and job-killing tax hikes. House Republicans, however, are committed to continuing sensible economic policies that have proven to help fuel economic growth and promote prosperity."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics also announced that the unemployment rate dropped to 4.6 percent in May, lower than the average of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The economy has created 5.3 million jobs since August 2003.
