Diaz-Balart Votes to Create More U.S.-Owned Oil Refineries

Seeking to improve the supply of oil and gas in the United States and decrease dependence on foreign energy sources, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today voted to increase the number of U.S.-owned oil refineries. The Refinery Permit Process Schedule Act (H.R. 5254) comes at a time when many Americans are feeling pinch in their budgets by the high cost of gasoline.

"Despite the increasing demand for fuel, the United States has not built a new oil refinery in more than 30 years," Diaz-Balart said. "Creating more refineries will help us address our nation's energy costs in the short-term by improving the overall supply of gas and oil. However, we must continue to research and develop economically viable alternative energy sources.

"While Democrats continue to provide zero practical solutions to address high gas prices, House Republicans are taking action to meet the energy needs of the American people," Diaz-Balart added.
