Senator John Thune today made the following statement regarding the death of al-Qaida's Abu Musab al-Zarqawi:

June 8th, 2006 - Washington, DC - "This is a victory in the war on terror. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's death is a significant defeat to al-Qaida and the insurgency that is spreading death and terror throughout Iraq. Justice has been served. Zarqawi's death will not bring an end to the violence in Iraq, but it does represent the progress being made by our troops and coalition allies. The men and women of the U.S. military deserve a great deal of praise for their continued fight against evil terrorists like Zarqawi."
