Statement by U.S. Representative Diana DeGette on Budget Busting Tax Giveaways

Half a tank of gas for average Americans; New Hummer for Millionaires

Today, U.S. Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement regarding her vote against the $69 billion tax package (H.R. 4297).

"Under the Republican tax scheme, the average middle class American will receive a whooping $20 while the average millionaire will receive $42,000. In other words, a new Hummer H3 for millionaires and half a tank of gas for everyone else. Marie Antoinette couldn't have said it better herself.

"We are in a global war on terror, yet the Republicans claim they don't have the money to protect our ports. Republicans are cutting education and health care because they can't find money to balance the budget. However, when it comes to tax cuts for millionaires, they can find $69 billion.

"A party with priorities so far out of whack doesn't deserve to be in the majority."
