We are disappointed that today's long awaited hearing on the prescription drug program failed to include important witnesses necessary to enable the Subcommittee to fully examine the issues surrounding implementation of the program. Accordingly, pursuant to Rule XI (j) (1), the Democratic Members of the minority of the Subcommittee on Health request an additional hearing day in order to accommodate witnesses who would fulfill the state goal of today's hearing. At a minimum, we would likely invite: a state Medicaid director, an executive with United Health Care and/or Humana, an analyst with the Government Accountability Office, a representative of the Office of the Inspector General, a Medicare expert from the Kaiser Family Foundation, a beneficiary membership organization, a witness to address retiree coverage issues and perhaps others. Many of these witnesses were requested, but rejected, by the majority.
