Congresswoman Matsui Announces Increase in Flood Protection Funding

Appropriation Subcommittee on Energy and Water improves upon record budget funding

Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (CA-5) announced that the House of Representatives is on track to fund Sacramento's flood control efforts at record levels for the 2007 fiscal year. The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water is designating nearly $72 million for Sacramento flood protection. This includes project funding for the American River Projects, the South Sacramento County Streams and the Sacramento River Bank Protection

"What this record funding means is that the House is on-track to provide Sacramento all the dollars it needs this year for our flood protection efforts," Congresswoman Matsui enthusiastically stated. "This funding will ensure that Sacramento continues to make significant progress towards more than doubling our current level of flood protection through improvements to Folsom Dam and our levees, I am very pleased that the Committee recognized and acted on Sacramento's urgent need for flood protection. I would also like to express my deep appreciation to the Committee for placing a high priority on increasing the flood protection for the most at-risk river city in the nation and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues as this bill moves through Congress."
