Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Encourages Sign-Up for 2005 Hurricane Assistance Programs

Enrollment Is for Disaster Relief Funds Diaz-Balart Helped Secure in December

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today encouraged local nurseries and growers impacted by the 2005 hurricanes to apply for USDA hurricane relief funds.

"Last December, Congressmen Adam Putnam, Mark Foley and I were able to secure a commitment from the Administration to help ease the catastrophic blow dealt to Florida's agricultural industry by the 2005 hurricanes," Diaz-Balart said. "Unfortunately, the rules-making process is not a speedy process. However, I am pleased the Administration recognizes the physical and economic devastation Florida's agriculture producers are suffering and is making these funds available.

"I hope that these critical funds will be dispersed quickly so our growers can salvage their businesses and the jobs they provide."
