Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Joins Congressional Caucus for Freedom of the Press
Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) joined the Congressional Caucus for Freedom of the Press and participated in its official launch on May 3, World Press Freedom Day.
"It is an honor to be a member of the Congressional Caucus for Freedom of the Press. Freedom of the press is a critical part of a free and open society.
"Sometimes in the United States, we complain about the press and its coverage. That is part of our freedom in this great country. But we always recognize and support the right of the press to exist. After all, it is no coincidence that tyrannies and dictatorships early actions typically include silencing the voice of the press. Sadly, these oppressive regimes often continue their persecution of the press. For example, according to Reporters Without Borders, Cuba is the world's second biggest prison for journalists, behind China."
