DUCKWORTH TAKES AIM AT ROSKAM LABOR RECORD
Roskam's Record - Votes Against Minimum Wage, Tax Credits for Low-Income Workers - Begs the Question: Who is the "Real" Peter Roskam?
Tammy Duckworth, candidate for Congress in Illinois' 6th district, took aim today at Peter Roskam's record of opposition to working families.
"One political announcement can't erase Peter Roskam's 12-year record in Springfield of hostility to working families and opposition to the issues that they care about," she said.
She added: "It's time to ask the question: who is the real' Peter Roskam, when it comes to issues of importance to working families?
"Peter Roskam has opposed increasing the minimum wage, voted against protecting Illinois workers from the Bush administration's new overtime rules, against collective bargaining rules, and was the only member of the General Assembly who failed to support the Ronald Reagan Earned Income Tax Credit which honors work and reduces the taxes of low-income workers.
"Between now and election day, working families canand willlook at his record. They know that Peter Roskam has not taken the side of working familiesinstead, he has cast votes that have taken money out of their pockets.
"The people of the sixth district need a representative who will put the economic interests of families ahead of the special interests that who dominate the agenda in Congress -- the big energy companies and pharmaceutical companies that are filling Roskam's warchest. They know Roskam stands for more of the same in Washington. He'll defend the status quo rather than protect Illinois workers."
