Pelosi on Reported NSA Domestic Data Collection

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on a report in the USA TODAYthat the National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone records of millions of Americans using data provided by telephone companies:

"Our first responsibility is to protect the American people, and we must do so in ways that are consistent with our laws and our values.

"This afternoon, I met with the Speaker to ask him for an immediate Congressional review of news reports that the federal government may be collecting information on the phone calls of millions of ordinary Americans. We must determine the facts and whether the government is upholding our laws and our values."
