Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Senator Lloyd Bentsen

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the passing of former Senator and Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen of Texas:

"With the death of former Senator and Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen, America has lost a great champion for Democratic values. Throughout his long and distinguished political career, Lloyd Bentsen fought for fiscal responsibility, equal rights for minorities and women, and was always a fierce champion for the people of Texas. He was an acknowledged expert on many issues - from tax to foreign affairs - and always applied that expertise to work for a stronger America.

"I hope it is a comfort to those who loved him, especially his wife Beryl Ann, his three children and eight grandchildren, that so many people share their loss and are praying for them at this sad time."
