Rogers: One Week Left for Third District Seniors to Enroll in Rx Plans
Says help is available for Monday, May 15 enrollment deadline
Third District seniors have less than one week to enroll in a Medicare prescription drug plan, Congressman Mike Rogers said today. Rogers said while enrollment in a plan is completely voluntary, he is encouraging all interested seniors across the Third District who have not already done so to seek information about the plans before the May 15 deadline passes.
Any senior enrolling in the new benefit after next Monday, May 15, will be assessed a small penalty, he said.
"While this is certainly not a perfect new benefit, for the first time many folks are finally beginning to save significant money on their prescriptions. But for those who are still interested in enrolling, time is running out."
Rogers said seniors may call 1-800-AGELINE for assistance. He said seniors would need their Medicare card handy, as well as a list of medications they take.
Rogers also said seniors could call any one of his East Alabama offices for assistance. His Anniston office is at (256) 236-5655; Opelika at (334) 745-6221; and Montgomery at (334) 277-4210.
"Like any large new initiative this program has seen its share of bumps in the road. Hopefully, many of these kinks are being ironed out," Rogers said. "If any Third District citizens are still having difficulty with their coverage, or need assistance with enrollment, they should call one of my offices and we will do our best to be helpful," Rogers said.
