Community leaders encourage support for bi-partisan federal hearing aid tax credit legislation in recognition of Better Hearing and Speech Month
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Ana Valladares, Children's Services Council member and other community leaders gathered at the Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center today to recognize May as "Better Hearing and Speech Month" and announce their support for the Hearing Aid Assistance Tax Credit Act (H.R. 414).
The legislation, authored by Rep. Jim Ryun (R-KS) and Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN), would provide families with children and senior citizens with up to a $1,000 tax credit on the purchase of a two hearing aids.
"I am proud to join members of Broward's human services community in supporting the Hearing Aid Assistance Tax Credit Act," said Rep. Wasserman Schultz. "Too many seniors and families with children delay seeking attention for hearing loss because of the high cost of hearing aids. This legislation would provide welcome relief for thousands of Americans who want to improve their quality of life through better hearing."
