McCaul Uses Texas Ideas to Spur American Technology

(Washington D.C.)- Texas Congressman Michael McCaul is using his role during last week's World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) to help bring innovative and technological ideas from Texas to our nation's capital where he is turning them into legislation aimed at helping America remain number one in the global high tech marketplace.

"We cannot, for a second, underestimate other nations and their abilities to take our place as the most innovative and technologically advanced country on the planet," stated McCaul. He went on to say, "Now is the time for Congress to put its full support behind our nation's technology sector and help America's scientists remain at the forefront of their fields."

The World Congress on Information Technology took place in Austin last week. The nation's leading high tech companies, heads of state and people from all over the world attended the event to examine technological innovation in the global markets, and how technology and innovation can help developing nations. The event also included a closing speech by former Secretary of State, General Colin Powell.

General Powell was introduced to the WCIT audience by Tenth Congressional District Congressman, Michael McCaul.

"It was an honor to introduce General Colin Powell at the WCIT," stated McCaul. He went on to say, "General Powell did an excellent job explaining the importance of keeping our government open to public view through the help of technology."

After General Powell's speech, Congressman McCaul held a U. S. House Science Committee field briefing in Austin. The field briefing included witnesses from the University of Texas and the high tech industry in Austin, and focused on ways Congress could work hand-in-hand with industry and academia to help America's universities and companies stay at the forefront of technology to keep the United States as the leader in innovation in an ever increasing technological world.

"I am currently working on legislation to make sure our scientists and innovators have the tools to make sure America remains the world's technology leader," stated McCaul.
