Mr. WALKINSHAW. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize April 2026 as National Child Abuse Prevention Month and to reaffirm our shared commitment to protecting children, supporting families, and strengthening communities across our nation.

Since 1983, National Child Abuse Prevention Month has served as a reminder of our collective responsibility to ensure that every child grows up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment. Preventing abuse and neglect requires a coordinated effort among families, educators, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and community organizations working together to support children and intervene when help is needed.

In communities across Northern Virginia, dedicated professionals and volunteers are working every day to protect children and support survivors. Their efforts help ensure that children are treated with dignity and compassion, and that families have access to the resources they need during difficult times.

In Virginia's 11th Congressional District, organizations like SafeSpot Children's Advocacy Center play a vital role in this work. SafeSpot partners with law enforcement, child protective services, and other community organizations to support children and families navigating the trauma of abuse. Through trauma-informed forensic interviews, advocacy services, and therapy, organizations like SafeSpot help reduce the burden on children while ensuring they receive the care and support they need to begin the healing process.

Child Abuse Prevention Month also highlights the importance of prevention through education, awareness, and early intervention. By investing in families and strengthening support systems, we can reduce risk factors and create environments where children can thrive.

Mr. Speaker, I ask my colleagues to join me in recognizing National Child Abuse Prevention Month and in supporting the individuals and organizations working tirelessly to protect children and promote safe, healthy communities.
