Congressman Aderholt Applauds Investigation of Rising Gas Prices

CONGRESSMAN ADERHOLT APPLAUDS INVESTIGATION OF RISING GAS PRICES

Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today announced progress in protecting consumers from unlawful collusion, price-fixing or gouging in the sale or distribution of gasoline. A letter was sent to President Bush from Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist requesting that potential cases be investigated. President Bush has ordered the investigation into possible price manipulations.

"Rising gas prices are a concern for almost everyone in the country. Leadership has responded to concerns expressed by me and my colleagues by sending a letter to President Bush requesting an investigation to determine if any unlawful manipulation of gas prices, such as price gouging, has occurred," said Congressman Aderholt. "This is a step in the right direction. It is imperative that consumers, like you and me, are protected from practices that abuse consumers. New refineries must be built, and we must explore other sources of energy. Until those are developed, consumers must be protected."
