Diaz-Balart Votes to Strengthen Intelligence Capabilities

House Republicans Support Legislation to Increase Funding for Intelligence-gathering Agencies

The House of Representatives approved a comprehensive bill that will boost funding for federal intelligence-gathering agencies to help them more effectively fight and win the war on terror. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today emphasized the critical role intelligence agencies play in protecting the nation.

"If terrorists are planning to attack the Port of Miami or any other potential targets in the area, we need to know so we can stop it," Diaz-Balart said. "As we continue to fight the War on Terror, it is critical that we have the best possible information. I am committed to providing our intelligence agencies whatever tools and resources they need to collect the most reliable information possible.

"We have an obligation to defend freedom and protect our nation," Diaz-Balart continued. "Intelligence agencies provide the details crucial to effectively preventing terrorists from attacking our homeland. The passage of today's legislation demonstrates that Congress is fully committed to providing the resources necessary."
