Capito Votes to Strengthen Intelligence Community's Ability to Fight War on Terror

WASHINGTON The U.S. House of Representatives today approved a comprehensive bill that will boost funding for federal intelligence-gathering agencies to help them more effectively fight and win the war on terror. H.R. 5020, the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007, will help address deficiencies in our intelligence agencies caused by steep cuts in intelligence spending during the 1990s. Following the bill's passage, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) issued the following statement:

"One of our greatest responsibilities is to continue providing our intelligence-gathering agencies with the resources they need to scuttle terror schemes and keep our nation secure," said Rep. Capito. "I'm proud to have supported this important legislation that will help ensure America's intelligence community is aggressive and agile as it continues the fight against terror."

Among other things, the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 will do the following:

Increase funding for the U.S. intelligence community over last year's funding levels;

Boost human intelligence capabilities and the ability to conduct unilateral operations; and

Authorize funding for additional personnel, improved human intelligence training, and funding for analytical tools and resources.
