Congressman Cuellar Announces $500,000 for Laredo Border Patrol

CONGRESSMAN CUELLAR ANNOUNCES $500,000 FOR LAREDO BORDER PATROL

Washington, DC- Congressman Cuellar joined officials from the Laredo Border Patrol and the City of Laredo today at the Environmental Science Center at Laredo Community College to celebrate the announcement of a $500,000 award for law enforcement capabilities along the Rio Grande. The funds are from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and will impact national security through enhancing visibility, mobility and access in secluded areas fronting the Rio Grande River within the corporate limits of the City of Laredo.

Congressman Cuellar noted "Our Border Patrol agents put their life on the line every day to provide us with the best protection and it is our duty to reciprocate by providing them with the best resources available. These funds are a big step in that direction."

The funds will be used for improvements along the river bend that would lead to increased security. The specific scope of measures which the money will go to have not yet been disclosed.

"This is another victory for the City of Laredo whose leaders continue to support federal grant projects to give residents the security they need and deserve," Congressman Cuellar added.

This $500,000 will contribute to the overall River Bend project monies to pay for materials, engineering costs and/or labor.
