Durbin Applauds Senate Passage Of The National Security Supplemental

Statement

Date: Feb. 13, 2024
Location: Washington, D.C.
Issues: Foreign Aid

“Today, we proved to the world that the United States Senate can come together in a bipartisan way to deliver critical security and humanitarian aid. And we sent an important message to the Ukrainian people fighting for their freedom: we will not walk away from your battle. Putin and his apologists, Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson, lost to a strong bipartisan majority.

What we do has consequences—global and historic. With this aid, we are helping the millions of Ukrainians on the front lines in their fight against Russian tyranny, providing critical security assistance for Israel, delivering urgent humanitarian aid for those caught in the conflict in Gaza, and supporting Taiwan’s defense against Chinese aggression. Now, I urge the House to act quickly to be on the right side of the battle in Ukraine and the right side of history. Do not bow to the whims of former President Trump—take up this bipartisan measure without delay.
