"As an institution, we should be increasing our ability to serve our constituents and recruit and retain talented staff and United States Capitol Police Officers, not merely treading water. We made progress last Congress, but this bill takes us backward. The Legislative Branch funding bill is not an appropriate venue for the divisive and partisan language House Republicans have placed in each Appropriations bill we have considered. We should be working together to ensure Congress is able to serve the American People and complete the People's business safely, securely, and efficiently, our political differences notwithstanding. I urge my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to end the charade of forcing through partisan funding bills. We are out of time. I hope my colleagues will come to this realization soon and join me at the negotiating table. Now is the time to find common ground and pass bipartisan funding bills immediately."
