Gov. Rounds Issues the Following Statement Regarding Sen. Johnson's "Hometown Prosperity Plan"
-Gov. Mike Rounds issued the following statement in regards to Sen. Tim Johnson's "Hometown Prosperity Plan:"
"I applaud Sen. Johnson for initiating a complementary economic development plan to our citizen's 2010 Initiative. As we have proven time and time again, we must all work together: federal, state and local units of government to meet our goals."
The 2010 Initiative is a comprehensive set of goals, objectives and action plans created to guide South Dakota's efforts in improving economic development and overall quality of life. Input from citizens across the state was gathered and used as the foundation for the Initiative, which focuses on five key areas:
* Doubling our visitor industry spending from $600 million to $1.2 billion by the year 2010.
* Increasing our Gross State Product, a measure of economic vitality, from $24 billion to $34 billion by the year 2010.
* Becoming a recognized leader in the areas of research and technology
* Branding South Dakota's Quality of Life as the best in America
* Committing to keep the 2010 Initiative as a "living document." Since the plan was unveiled in October of 2003, citizens from across the state have met each year to review the Initiative's goals and action steps and update them to better meet South Dakota's needs.
