Diaz-Balart: More to National Security Than an Empty Media Presentation

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today dismissed House Democrats' "security" agenda as little more than an empty media presentation.

"It took them five years, but Democrat Leadership finally decided to talk about national security," Diaz-Balart said. "Too bad there is more to a national security agenda than an empty media presentation. Ultimately, actions speak louder than words and Nancy Pelosi's actions sound more like a light whisper."

Pelosi has endorsed Cong. Murtha's cut-and-run policy, sympathized with terrorists imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay and criticized wire-tapping overseas phone calls with known terrorists. She voted against reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act and against creating the Department of Homeland Security.

Pelosi also has a long history of trying to gut defense and intelligence budgets. In 1998, she voted against authorizing U.S. intelligence activities. In 1996, she voted to reduce the total Intelligence authorization by 4.9 percent. In 1993, she voted to gut Intelligence authorization by $500 million.

"It is difficult to take any Democrat security agenda seriously when their own leader has consistently tried to thwart effective national security initiatives," Diaz-Balart concluded.
