Diaz-Balart Statement Regarding the Senate Immigration Compromise
April 6, 2006

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today released the following statement regarding the Hagel-Martinez Plan on immigration:

"We need comprehensive immigration reform. We need to strengthen our border security, and we need to address the immigration issues inside our borders. One without the other will resolve nothing.

"Today's Senate compromise takes a realistic approach to the immigration problems our country is facing. Instead of demonizing, it tackles the issue honestly. I applaud Senator Martinez for fighting for better immigration policies. I applaud the Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist for working toward a realistic and comprehensive plan that protects our borders and addresses our economic and immigration needs."
