Congressman Henry Cuellar Announces $2.8 Million for San Antonio Interim Housing from FEMA

CONGRESSMAN HENRY CUELLAR ANNOUNCES $2.8 MILLION FOR SAN ANTONIO INTERIM HOUSING FROM FEMA
Washington, DC- Congressman Henry Cuellar today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a $2.8 million grant to reimburse the City of San Antonio for expenses related to interim housing of Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Previously FEMA obligated more than $16.9 million in reimbursements to the City of San Antonio for housing and sheltering of Katrina evacuees. The latest reimbursements cover costs associated with rent, utilities, and furnishings for Hurricane Katrina evacuees. The State of Texas administers FEMA's Public Assistance program under which eligible and documented disaster-related costs are reimbursed to state and local government agencies.

"In response to the tragedy, the City of San Antonio opened their arms to absorb as many Katrina victims as possible and provide every assistance necessary to help their fellow Americans," said Congressman Cuellar.

"I am well aware of the economic hardships incurred, and that is why it is my priority to make sure everyone in my district who endured these expenses will receive relief as soon as possible," he added.

Congressman Cuellar also noted, "This was a team effort between Congressmen Bonilla, Gonzalez, and Smith to help bring these much needed federal dollars to the Alamo City."
