House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued the following statement after an earthquake and its aftershocks hit Türkiye, Syria and the surrounding region.
I join the Turkish-American community in Brooklyn, New York City and the greater United States in mourning after the devastating earthquake in Gaziantep.
House Democrats will work with President Biden and the administration to provide the support and assistance of USAID as a complete response is assessed, and I will work with my colleagues on all levels of government to extend additional help during this time of urgent need.
My prayers are with all affected by this tremendous and tragic loss of life.
