Pelosi: Bush Administration Panders to Polluters Yet Again
Washington, D.C.House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Bush Administration's plan to weaken limits on toxic air pollutants from industrial facilities:
"Our children deserve clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. Instead of serving the needs of America's children, the Bush Administration once again is pandering to the greed of big polluters.
"Since his first day in office, President Bush has thrown open the doors of his Administration to the representatives of polluting industries, placing them in charge of the agencies that regulate them. These industry appointees regularly cast aside the views of career staff and scientists in favor of actions that protect special interests but harm the public interest.
"That is exactly what has happened with the Bush Administration's new plan to weaken limits on toxic air pollutants from industrial facilities. The EPA official responsible for this proposal previously represented polluting industries in the private sector. Truly, the fox is guarding the hen house in the Bush Administration, and our children are suffering for it."
