The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has begun preparation work for the ironworks repair project at Plum Island Lighthouse. These repairs were made possible by Congressman Zeldin securing $1.5 million worth of federal funds in 2019 for DHS and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to stabilize the lighthouse.
Congressman Zeldin also worked successfully to have language included in December 2020 government funding legislation that prevented Plum Island from being sold to the highest bidder.
"Plum Island is an essential environmental, historical and cultural resource in Suffolk County. It is great to see our efforts to restore and preserve Plum Island, and its limitless potential for future generations, paying off in real time," said Congressman Zeldin.
