Amodei Reacts to Wildfire Response and Drought Resiliency Act

Statement

U.S. Representative Mark Amodei (NV-02) today issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted on H.R. 5118, the Wildfire Response and Drought Resiliency Act:

"The shamelessness continues -- only this majority party leadership in the House could fake a title like this and fill it with nature's worst nightmares. I vote no."

H.R. 5118 BACKGROUND:

Fails to include any provisions to streamline the NEPA process to expedite forest management activities.

Blocks access to up to 58 million acres of roadless areas across the nation, making them even more susceptible to wildfires.

Includes so-called "Environmental Justice" provisions that would only make the regulatory arena worse and open federal land management agencies up to frivolous litigation from environmental groups.

Authorizes more than $4 billion in new federal funding, channeling money toward unnecessary research, studies and environmental restoration projects that don't deliver water to communities now.

Creates a federal water monitoring program that could be weaponized by potential litigants against farmers and ranchers to further curtail their access to water.
