Representative Angie Craig Applauds Administration Support for Temporarily Suspending Federal Gas Tax to Lower Prices at the Pump

Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig applauded President Biden's support for a three-month federal gas tax holiday -- which would help to reduce the burden of surging gas prices on working families in Minnesota and across the country. Earlier this spring, Craig called for a temporary suspension of federal and state gas taxes, which would lower costs by nearly 50 cents per gallon.

"I know that the American people are struggling to keep up with gas prices, and I share their frustration. Elected officials must come together and use every tool at their disposal to lower prices -- including a temporary gas tax holiday which would lower prices by nearly 50 cents per gallon in Minnesota," said Representative Craig. "Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures -- and I am pleased to see this Administration taking an important step toward delivering much-needed relief at the gas pump."

Representative Craig's support for a temporary gas tax holiday is part of her ongoing effort to lower gas prices for American families. Just last week, the House passed Craig's Year-Round Fuel Choice Act, which would permanently allow the year-round sale of E15, a biofuel alternative that lowers the average cost of fuel and can cost as much as forty cents per gallon less than regular gasoline. Craig has also prioritized the year-round sales of homegrown biofuels as a replacement for Russian oil and gas -- and co-sponsored the Stop Gas Price Gouging Tax and Rebate Act and Gas Prices Relief Act. She also questioned Big Oil executives about why they are not passing windfall profits on to consumers during an Energy and Commerce hearing in April.
