Governor Walz Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

In accordance with a proclamation issued by President Joe Biden, Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States and Minnesota flags to fly at half-staff at all state buildings in the State of Minnesota, immediately until sunset on Sunday, July 10, 2022 in honor of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated on Friday.

"Minnesota and Japan share an important friendship and longtime trade partnership. The First Lady and I are sending our deepest condolences to the people of Japan during this difficult time ," said Governor Walz.

Japan's longest-serving prime minister, Abe held office in 2006 and from 2012 to 2020.

Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are also encouraged to join in lowering their flags.
