Rep. Mace Votes to Protect Second Amendment Rights

Today, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) released the following statement on her vote to support the Second Amendment because the bill violates the Constitution and does not address the root causes of mass shootings:

"Today's vote on gun bans is an attempt by Congress to significantly restrict Americans' Second Amendment rights,"said Rep. Mace."I'm a gun owner, hunter, and avid outdoorswoman, and today I voted to protect this American way of life. Guns are tools for hunting and self-defense, and we should not punish responsible, law-abiding gun owners and manufacturers in a misguided attempt to curb gun violence in our country. The bill also bans many commonly used firearms like the ones I own for hunting and self defense and the bill has no chance of passing the Senate."

"Our policies should be based on reality and centered on an approach to truly get to the root of the problem. We just had a vote a few weeks ago to ban certain firearms from those under the age of 21. Well, the vast majority of shootings or use of a firearm in a crime, in South Carolina, are by those aged 21-39. In Chicago, where guns no larger than a 9mm are allowed, just last weekend 65 people were shot and 5 were killed. It's clear gun control and gun bans don't work. Congress must focus on strengthening background checks, addressing mental health, providing law enforcement the resources they need to enforce illegal gun possession laws already on the books, school safety, and improving software that keeps track of criminal charges and convictions."
