Congressman Cuellar Announces $2 Million for Laredo International Airport

CONGRESSMAN CUELLAR ANNOUNCES $2 MILLION FOR LAREDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Washington, DC- Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar announced $2 Million for the Laredo International Airport to assist with noise mitigation measures for nearby residences. The funds were administered under Section 159 of the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st century, and are provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Laredo International Airport will use these funds to lessen the noise impact on the local residents.

"The Laredo International Airport is an integral part of Laredo's economy, booming business, tourism industry and rapid development. The airport is truly deserving of federal funds to assist in continuing its expansion," said Congressman Cuellar.

"I am pleased that the Department of Transportation has recognized the need to reduce noise levels around the airport to improve the quality of life for nearby residents," Congressman Cuellar added.

"This funding is exactly what the City of Laredo needs to continue its noise abatement program for the Laredo International Airport," stated an excited Mayor Betty Flores. "I thank Congressman Cuellar and the members of Congress that listened to Laredo's needs this past March during our visit to Washington D.C. The City's administration and staff did an outstanding job articulating the needs and position of our community and this award is a direct result of that advocacy work."
