Cornyn Optimistic About Latest Jobs Report
243,000 new payroll jobs created nationwide in February30th straight month of job growth
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Small Business, Joint Economic and Budget Committees, expressed strong optimism Friday following the release of the latest jobs report that shows continued growth.
"This latest report provides further evidence that the President's pro-growth economic policies and tax relief passed by Congress are working.
"We continue to experience positive job growth thanks to the flexibility of the American economy, despite various challenges in the past several years.
"Our economic policies have been the key ingredient to helping us overcome the obstacles we've faced. For this reason, I urge my colleagues in the Senate to make the tax relief permanent."
The U.S. Department of Labor reports that 243,000 payroll jobs were created in Februarythe 30th straight month of job growth. Since May 2003, the economy has created nearly five million new jobs, more than Japan and Europe combined.
On Thursday, the Labor Department reported that Texas posted the third largest job gains in the nation for January and 2005. The state saw a net increase of 269,800 jobs in 2005. Texas added 13,400 jobs to the nonfarm payrolls in January.
The state unemployment rate also dropped to five percent in January.
