McCaul Statement on the Implementation of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act

Today, the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act entered into force. This bill passed with broad bipartisan support in December of 2021 and required the administration to block major categories of imports from China within 180 days due to the Chinese Communist Party's genocide against Uyghurs, which involves forced labor. Following the administration's enforcement announcement, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul has released the following statement:

"The implementation of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act is a good day for American values and the free world's fight against the brutality of the Chinese Communist Party. I'm encouraged the administration has committed to enforce this bipartisan bill, but it bears repeating that this is a law -- not a suggestion. I fully expect the administration to tenaciously block the products of slave labor and genocide from American shores under this law, and I will be conducting oversight of any lapses."
