"Every day journalists take extraordinary risks to bring us the news, especially those with the courage to report from regions of conflict. Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian-American journalist with Al Jazeera, was a talented, valued member of the press, and her death is terrible tragedy. The Israeli military must conduct a thorough and objective investigation into Abu Akleh's death, and be transparent about its findings.
"My prayers are with her family, with her colleague, Ali Al-Samudi, who was also wounded, and with members of the press everywhere who risk their lives to bring us the truth."
