Congresswoman Nikema Williams Votes to Address Baby Formula Shortage

Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) helped pass two bills that will improve families' access to infant formula, ensure every baby has the nutrition they need, and prevent this crisis from potentially happening again.

The supplemental funding bill (H.R. 7790) provides the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) urgently needed resources to help address the infant formula shortage, increase the number of FDA inspection staff, provide resources for personnel working on formula issues and more. The Access to Baby Formula Act provides flexibility so that low-income families can continue purchasing safe infant formula with their WIC benefits during an emergency, such as a supply chain disruption.

Congresswoman Williams said:

"Families across Georgia need baby formula now. Any delay in action could be detrimental to the health of babies especially for low-income and medically-fragile communities. I'm a mom and I can't imagine how terrifying it would be if I couldn't find food for my Carter cakes. Today's legislation is just one step we must take so that every family can feed their children, no matter the age of their child, their ZIP code, or the size of their bank account."
